I can’t believe the latest ad from Levi’s. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KT16DcHcjRA How are parents to combat the message in this ad. A message encouraging our young to disregard the wisdom of their elders and engage in a hedonistic lifestyle. In essence encouraging anarchy. This attitude is what has led to the flash mob attacks in Philadelphia and the riots in London.

What’s going on with Libya?

For the past several weeks something has been bothering me regarding the whole Libya revolution and the stance taken by the USA. Libya has been known to support terrorism since the mid 1980s. Gaddafi sponsored terrorism and attempted to overthrow the governments of several neighboring countries he deemed not sufficiently militant. A former Libyan Defense Minister recently stated Gaddafi was behind the bombing of the airplane over Lockerbie, Scotland. In 2002 Libya agreed to pay each of the victim families $10 million under the condition sanctions imposed by the UN and the US be lifted and Libya be removed from the list of states sponsoring terrorism. At that time the US began to increase significantly oil imports from Libya.
In my mind, Libya continues to be a terrorist state. In the past four weeks they have killed hundreds of their own citizens for no other reason than they wanted to have a voice in their own government. The US and the UN should re-impose all sanctions against Libya and give the Libyan people the moral support they need to overthrow this tyrant.

What has been happening to our economy?

Anyone who wants to understand what has been happening to the US economy should really take the time to read “Economics in One Lesson” by Henry Hazlitt. I found it very enlightening.

Don’t believe this cannot happen to the US!

Argentina takes over large pension funds. This could just as easily happen in the US. As government grows larger and needs more control and money to maintain social programs, i.e. Healthcare, they will not stop at taking away anything they can lay their hands on. We have already seen this in the take over of automobile manufacturers, bank and finance institutions and soon insurance and health institutions.

Home Grown Stimulus

Washington doesn’t seem to understand how to handle unemployment. They came up with the cash for clunkers program and Toyota took almost 20% of the money they handed out. It is time for the people to take over. I for one am going to do my part. I have adopted a Buy American policy. If it is not grown or made in the USA then I don’t need it. If everyone adopts this policy the economy will turn around in short order. Jump on the band wagon.

Is it time for Term Limits

It does not appear our legislators are willing to listen to the American public. They seem to believe as elected officials they know what is best and do not need our input. I believe the solution to ensure our Senators and Representatives pay attention to us is term limits. Let me know if you agree or disagree.

Health Care and Tax on Beverages

Recently I sent an email regarding the discussions in the Senate on beverage tax. This is the response I got from one of the Senators in my state.
“As you may know, the Senate is currently crafting legislation to reform and improve our nation’s health care system. As part of this process, Congressional leaders are considering a number of proposals to minimize the effect of such reforms on our federal debt. One such proposal would create a three cent excise tax per twelve ounces of a sweetened beverage. This proposal would raise almost $52 billion over ten years to fund health care reform.
Today, American children aged 2 to 5 are twice as likely to be overweight as they were in 1970, and those aged 6 to 19 are three times as likely to be overweight. In total, more than 9 million children and adolescents are now considered overweight. Obesity contributes to morbidity and premature death. Such trends are having a devastating impact on our health care system. If we can reduce our consumption of high-sugar soft drinks, we can make some progress in fighting obesity and reigning in health care costs.”
This is typical of the Democratic Party and their condescending attitude. Rather than help people become accountable and take responsibility for their choices they want to preempt our choices.

Lessons never learned

As I listened to the radio the other day, I was shocked by an advertisment from a mortgage company. In the ad they stated they could loan up to 125% of the value of the home. Isn’t this the kind of lending practice that got us into the economic mess we are in today? I would think this would be one of the loopholes the government would want to plug. Lending more than the value of a property puts the lender at risk and it creates an expectation in the borrower that his property is really worth more than market value. If for what ever reason he has to sell the home is he going to be looking for 100% of the homes value or 125% to ensure he can pay off his outstanding balance? I don’t know about you but I find this practice to be seriously flawed.
