How deep is the Deep State / Swamp? Before we can answer that question, it is important we be on the same page as to, What is the Deep State? Are the Deep State and the Washington Swamp the same thing? My own definition of the Deep State is, the cadre of Bureaucrats, elected, appointed or career, within government who believe the Country is on the wrong path and they have a moral obligation to set the Country on the correct path. These individuals could belong to any political party and they may act differently depending on which party is in power. The belief that distinguishes them from the public at large is their believe they know what is best for the country and because of this belief they see it as being their responsibility to take action, regardless of whether their action is contrary to existing policy or law, and right the current course of the country. They exist throughout government and within every department. They exist in Federal, State and Local Government offices. They are pervasive. Their actions are detrimental to the Liberties guaranteed by the Constitution to all. Their efforts are not necessarily planned or coordinated with others in the Deep State. Depending on their rank they may, in fact, use their position to have others unwittingly perform actions of the Deep State. And YES, within Washington the Deep State and the Swamp are equivalent. The only distinction is that the Swamp also includes the biased media that gives voice to the Deep State. Now that you have my definition of the Deep State, we can explore how deep it runs.
The best example I have seen of the depth and breadth of the Deep State occurred this past week. We were provided a glimpse of just how deep it runs, when Special Counsel Robert Mueller took the stage for an unusual Press Conference. Those on the Right and Left were apprehensive, hoping for some clarity as to why his Final Report on the Investigation into Russian Election Meddling and possible Collusion and Obstruction of Justice by the President was so imprecise in its conclusions. Conservatives were baffled by the report and how it did not provide a clear statement of the President’s innocence, while liberals could not understand how it did not come out with clear charges of collusion and obstruction. Both sides were hoping for vindication.
What Mueller did provide was a report fraught with subjective commentary and innuendo that never points to an iota of evidence and states “this constitutes a crime.” This is what left liberals in consternation. At the same time the report never clearly states, “no crime could be found.” This is what confounded the conservatives. All were hoping he would step forward a provide clarity to their belief. Instead he steps to the podium and says his hands were tied by existing policy within the Department of Justice. The OLC (Office of Legal Counsel) long standing opinion is and has been a sitting President cannot be indicted and he was forced to conform to their rules of engagement. If he truly believed this were the case, “Why did he take on the job in the first place?” What purpose did it serve for him to hold a press conference and state what had already been made clear in his report? Because he is part of the Deep State. What possible other reason could their be?
Even in bringing up the indictments against the Russians he goes out of his way to state, they are innocent until proven guilty. Yet he was determined to ensure a cloud was left over the President’s term in office, by saying while we found no evidence of a crime that does not mean the President did not commit one. The objective of the Deep State from the outset has been to undermine the Trump Presidency, ensuring he was ineffectual in pushing through his agenda and was seen as a dunce. Thereby limiting him to one term if he did not get impeached first. Mueller was intent on ensuring the Trump Presidency remained under a cloud of suspicion and that Congress continued to investigate in lieu of legislate.
I for one am sick and tired of these do-gooders who believe they stand on the moral high ground, who believe they have a better notion of what is in my best interest and will stop at nothing to limit my freedom, liberties and pursuit of happiness, all because they believe they know what is best for the country. What have they actually accomplished? Nothing positive. They have impeded the progress of our country, have held back the growth potential we have as a nation and a people. I applaud President Trump for his efforts to ensure our freedom and liberties. I particularly applaud his desire to drain the swamp. I only wish he would do more in that regard. With the Special Counsel gone, maybe now he can and that is what has the Deep State so worried and why they continue to push to investigate rather than legislate.
So, How Deep is the Deep State? Deeper than I like. Deeper than I care to admit. Deep enough that it scares me. So deep that we all should be concerned for our Freedom, Liberties and particularly for the Freedom and Liberties of our children and their children.
