Special Counsel Robert Mueller testified before the House Judiciary Committee and the House Intelligence Committee last week. As I predicted he had no new revelations for either Party. Democrats have quietly claimed a victory because he said nothing to dissuade them from their interpretation of his findings while providing no new declarations they were looking for. Republicans have claimed a victory for the same reason, no new declarations indicating the President or his campaign were guilty of conspiracy or obstruction.
Democrats continue to follow Mueller’s line of “while nothing was found, that does not mean he is innocent”, and have vowed to continue to investigate the President on all fronts. They have and will continue to issue subpoenas for witnesses they believe might be able to bolster their deep founded belief in the President’s guilt. How could anyone so irascible and contemptuous as this President not be guilty of something, is their line of thinking.
Republicans, on the other hand, are out in force claiming “nothing new here”. Mueller declined to provide them with the evidence they sought on the origination of the investigation in the first place, i.e. the Steele Dossier. They await something to hang their hats on out of the Inspector General’s investigation or the DOJ’s investigation under US Attorney Dunbar. Neither Party is willing to put the issues to rest and move forward on legislation in the House that would be meaningful for America and Americans.
My personal take away from the nearly 6 hours of testimony, Mueller is an embarrassment, a coward and likely suffering from Alzheimer’s. Throughout his testimony, he demonstrated a lack of familiarity with the content of the report. He so much as said, the report was investigated and compiled without his personal participation. He fumbled with both the questions being asked, requesting they be repeated numerous times and fumbled with his answers having to correct himself numerous times. He declined to answer truly relevant questions, claiming it was not in his purview. When clearly the issue be questioned was in his purview and should have been a major point of the investigation. I was embarrassed for him, his performance was so bad.
The performance by the Representatives was equally bad. Both Democrats and Republicans were embarrassingly patronizing towards Mueller. Touting his service, integrity, military service, service to the country, etc. The most shameful part for me is their total lack of understanding of their role as Congressional Representatives. More on that later.
