I am struck by the hypocrisy constantly being spewed forth by the Liberal Progressive Left. It seems they always wear rose colored glasses for problems they should really be addressing and can only see problems they invent. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez in her recent visit to border detention facilities said, “No child should ever be taken from its mother.” She was speaking specifically of the separation of a mother and child that may occur at an illegal entrant detention facility. However, across the US thousands of children are taken from their mothers each day.
When mothers do not provide adequate or provide inappropriate care for the children, child service3s steps in and removes children from the mothers care. The mother may have a drug or alcohol problem, the home environment may be unstable or, as in many cases, the mother may have placed the child in harm’s way.
When a mother undertakes to journey thousands of miles to get to the US Border and come across illegally, is she not placing her child in harm’s way? When a mother puts a young child at risk of rape, molestation or sexual abuse at the hand’s of coyotes, drug runners or human traffickers, is she not placing the child in harm’s way?
Many may argue the mother had the child’s best interest at heart and was seeking to improve the child’s condition, but this is just another the end justifies the means argument. If we accept this as a valid argument in this case, how many other cases require our acceptance? If a poor, homeless person forces himself into the home of someone just because they have an empty spare bedroom, is it justified based on the argument, he had an empty spare room and I had no place to stay?
Where does the hypocrisy come in? The Liberal Progressive Left would prefer we address the problems of non-citizens from foreign lands before we address the problems we have here. Unwed mothers who are unable to take proper care of their children, mothers who are alcoholics or addicts and unable to take care of their children, unemployable mothers unable to take care of their children. Are we really addressing the problem by taking their children away from them? What are we really doing to make that family whole again afterward?
We have thousands of homeless on the streets of our major cities. Yet the Progressive Liberal Left would have us provide housing, healthcare, and jobs for these illegal immigrants, rather than provide adequate care for our own, who in many cases at one time worked and paid taxes, who may have sacrificed years of their lives serving in our military and protecting us from terrorists. Do we not owe them more than we owe someone who has just arrived at our borders, crossed over illegally and has never contributed to our society?
For me, this is a prime example of the hypocrisy of the Left. I could go on but will restrain myself and wait for another day.
