I suppose it was inevitable, in today's highly sensitized world, riddled with fear and panic, that those in positions of power would take advantage of the situation to silence the voice of dissent. Google, YouTube, Bing, Yahoo, Facebook, and the media have taken it upon themselves to ensure we only listen to one truth. Their version of the truth. For the last couple of years Congress has held several public hearings with senior officials and CEOs of these companies questioning their censorship of various news stories. I never quite understood the real purpose of the inquiries. Some seemed to be saying their censorship was unwarranted. Others seemed to say it was not enough. Now it is clear. The narrative being pushed by those in power and the media is the only narrative to be permitted.
Google, YouTube, Bing, Yahoo and Facebook are now aligned to ensure this is the case. Dissenting opinions are being taken down or not even allowed to be published. They claim it is in the publics interest to prevent disinformation or misleading characterizations. In the end it is only censorship, quieting the voice of those who would question the current narrative. 26 years later 1984 has arrived. We must use the approved language of political correctness and we must stick to the narrative. This is very scary stuff. Totalitarianism is just around the corner.
