A thinking man's perspective of current affairs and other interests
This is my personal home on the web. While I have owned this site for a long time, due to my career activities and the amount of traveling involved, I was unable to keep it up to date. Now I am retired and I intend to contribute articles to the site on a more regular basis. I will be sharing my personal point of view on subjects I find of interest, these will include current affairs, politics, self-awareness, consciousness, language, thought and action. As well as anything else I deem may be of more general or personal interest. All my views can be found on my Articles page.
Not everyone will share my point of view, but I hope to present views encouraging discussion and reflection. So, I ask you not to get upset or offended if we see the world from different perspectives. My personal point of view is shaped by my experiences and the education I have received in the course of my life, just as I expect your perspective has been shaped in the same way. I welcome your feedback and discussion provided we are respectful one of the other.
As you can see from the name of my website, my name is Jack Cribbs. I am nobody special, except from my own point of view. I grew up in a small town in the southwest. I went off to college after graduating from high school and did not return to reside there until after my military service and I was married. I found work and began my adult life. A short while later an international Engineering and Construction company came into the area to begin work on a large government project. They ran an advertisement looking for someone with my skills and I hired on. When the project was completed, I went to work with the company awarded the contract for the next phase. From there I went to another contractor constructing a power plant in the county. After being there for a while I was called by the international company and asked if I was interested in going with them to a project in Africa. Being young and unafraid, I agreed, so my wife and our not quite two-year-old son departed for Africa. To keep a long story short, this was the beginning of a long career of work on large projects around the world. I went from a lowly engineer to VP of Project Development and worked on projects valued from a few million dollars to over 6 billion dollars.
In the early years of my engineering career, I tired of the frustration of dealing with different personalities and the lack of opportunity for promotion. I had recently read about the development of a small computer called the Altair. It used toggle switches to input programs and data. Bill Gates also heard about it and began developing the BASIC Programming Language for it. Ultimately, he was able to sell his BASIC to the developer and thus Microsoft was born.
I immediately recognized where the development of this table top computer would lead and began to learn everything I could about this fledgling industry. In 1981 I opened my own computer store and began selling computers I built up from various components to local businesses. Programs, today what most call apps, were not readily available and I had to become a programmer and developer. One of my clients owned a construction project management/consulting company and asked if I could write a program to help him in his business. I took on this task and it ultimately led me to return to the Engineering and Construction business and international projects.
I have recently retired after over 40+ years in the industry. A few years before retirement and planning for the event, I became a Certified Business and Life Coach. That and Consulting is what I do now. Mostly though, I keep abreast of current affairs, indulge in a couple of hobbies and enjoy my two granddaughters. I, also, have another web page at GetOutToVote.org. While on this current site I feel free to express my political views, at GetOutToVote.org, I try to remain non-partisan and stick to what I feel is the importance of voting.
